Omkara the revengeful dark thriller

Today I watched Omkara. The movie was released in July 2006. Phew… after 18 years I watched this movie. That time I thought it was an art movie type. It was surprising that Director Vishal Bhardwaj had cast top stars for this movie. He is usually known to work with accomplished theatre actors. The likes of Pankaj Kapur, Irfaan Khan, etc. But this movie's casting was a complete surprise.

Plus I was at that time interested in the typical Bollywood masala movies with a lot of fluff and colours.

As stated in the intro, the movie is an adaptation of Willam Shakeshpare’s tragedy drama “Othello”. The casting is perfect. Ajay Devgan as ‘Omkara’ with his brooding and menacing eyes steals the show.

The surprise package is Saif Ali Khan. With a bulky build and cool posture, he imbibes the role of ‘Langda Tyagi’ with ease. The most loving part is his, dialogue delivery in UP dialect and the rustic look.

The film rules over with an emotion of jealousy. Denied with the right succession, the jealousy turns to treachery.

The film would have been more enjoyable on the big screen. Watching it on OTT denies the fun of experiencing the gunfights in the village heartland.

A wonderful afternoon was spent with Omakra!

Missed the OST track of Omakra sung by Sukhwinder Singh. How can Amazon Prime India cut it?
